The Macao Translational Medicine Center was established to implement the innovation-driven development strategy and the Healthy China strategy. The aim is to enhance innovation in key common technologies, cutting-edge technologies, and disruptive innovation in the healthcare field. The center seeks to develop and achieve breakthroughs in key technologies and products that ensure public health and promote the growth of the health industry, driving the advancement of translational medicine.

By leveraging its unique “One country, two systems” advantage, Macao guided by the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area and the Overall Plan for the Development of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, has created extensive opportunities for collaboration and infused new momentum into the field of translational medicine.

The Macao Translational Medicine Center underpins its mission with four translational medicine platforms: one focused on diagnosing major diseases, another on treatments, a third on traditional Chinese medicine, and a fourth on translating artificial intelligence-enabled medical research.

A key focus of the Macao Translational Medicine Center is to establish a talent recruitment and evaluation system that aligns with the interdisciplinary development of medicine, engineering, and information technology. It aims to foster young scientific leaders and build a world-class innovation research team.

Currently, The Macao Translational Medicine Center has signed collaboration agreements with the Institute of Translational Medicine at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the EYE & ENT Hospital of Fudan University, the Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Research Institute, the First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University and the West China School/Hospital of Stomatology Sichuan University.
